Taylor Russell McKenzie was born on the 18th of July 1994 in Vancouver, British Columbia, and was raised in Vancouver, Toronto, and Montreal. [1][2(two) Russell, who was born to a black father and a white mother, is biracial, and grew up mostly with her mother's side of the family. Her skin shade made her feel different during her teenage years. [3] Her parents were struggling financially and were forced to move 16 times to take on her father's work. Despite this adversity, Russell mentioned how in her younger days "there was always a chance for reinvention, to create something new."As as a young person, Russell was already artistically inclined, at first, she wanted to pursue a career in ballet. Later, she wanted to be a painter. Russell was only 18 when she took her first acting class. She used her earnings from work to buy a car and drove to Los Angeles, to audition. When her funds ran out, she would go back to work until she earned enough money to attend another audition. It went on for four years until she finally secured her first television show role.
